Referee of the Year 2023

Being an editor is hard work. Being an author is hard work. Being a referee is hard work. Thank goodness we’re all paid so well! But while we wait for those riches to reach us, the BJPS Editors are delighted to bestow some token reward on a referee who we think went above and beyond over the last year.

Our Referee of the Year for 2023 is John Dougherty (Munich Centre for Mathematical Philosophy), whose work as a referee was, in the words of one of our associate editors, ‘exceptionally thorough, generous, and constructive’. As editors, we can only be as good as the authors and the referees that work with us, so we are extremely grateful to John for his efforts.

For their services to the community, winners of our Referee of the Year award not only get to bask in the fame and glamour inherent in that accolade, they also become lifetime honorary members of the British Society for the Philosophy of Science.

This year we also felt that two other referees deserved honourable mention for sharing their time, expertise, and good judgement: Emily Adlam (Chapman) and Matthias Michel (NYU). All three are the (now marginally less) unsung heroes of the profession!
