Referee of the Year 2024
It’s that magical time of year when we get to reward the great efforts of those honest toilers at the coal-face of knowledge production. Deep in the philosophy mines, few can take on such heavy loads, do so with such efficiency, and still emerge into the daylight proffering thoughtful, well-judged advice for our editors and authors.
One such rare star, and 2024’s undisputed Referee of the Year, is Emily Adlam (Chapman University). The eagle-eyed among you may remember her from the 2023 Referee of the Year honourable mentions. Not content to rest on her laurels, and in defiance of reported trends,1Yu, H., Liang, Y. and Xie, Y. [2024]: ‘Can Peer Review Accolade Awards Motivate Reviewers? A Large-Scale Quasi-natural Experiment’, Humanities and Social Sciences Communications, 11, available at <doi.org/10.1057/s41599-024-04088-w>. Emily received multiple nominations for the careful, constructive reports she sent us in 2024.
For their services to the community, winners of our Referee of the Year award are bestowed lifetime honorary membership of the British Society for the Philosophy of Science, along with the envy of friends and family.
The editors also agreed that Caspar Jacobs (Leiden University) earned an honourable mention for his work for this journal: agreeing to our numerous requests to review, returning reports in a timely fashion, and most of all for his careful, insightful guidance.
We extend our gratitude to Emily Adlam and Caspar Jacobs in particular, but also to all our referees, for their contribution to this journal, and to the philosophy of science more generally.
